The following video and step by step instructions will teach you how to change your generator's air filter assembly. Make sure your generator is off before starting and never perform maintenance on a running generator. Make sure the fuel valve is in the OFF position to stop the flow of fuel to the carburetor.
Be sure to refer to your operator's manual for specific instructions for your generator. This guide should be used as a source for additional information; not as an alternative to the manual. If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact us.
Note: The air filter assembly is located on the back, left hand side of the generator.
1. Locate the air filter assembly to the left of the recoil starter. Remove the cover by unscrewing the knob located at the bottom of the air cleaner. Pull up on the bottom of the cover and slide it off the top two tabs.
2. Remove the foam air filter from the housing. Warning: the foam filter is probably somewhat oily.
3. After removing the foam, remove the metal grate from the air filter housing. It is held into position by two plastic pins. Pull the grate straight off the pins to remove it.
4. Once the grate has been removed, remove the three nuts that are holding the air filter housing in place and set them to the side. Remove the following nuts:
5. Detach the rubber hose on the left hand side of the air filter assembly. Use a pair of pliers to remove the clamp holding it in place before sliding off the hose.
6. Detach the rubber hose on the top of the air filter assembly, by pulling the hose from the housing. The air filter assembly should be completely free. Remove the air filter assembly from the generator.
1. Slide the new air filter assembly onto the generator.
2. Reattach your the three nuts you previously set aside:
3. Plug both of the hoses back in. Use a pair of pliers to secure the clamp on the hose leading into the left hand side of the air filter housing. The hose on top can be fed in without any tools.
4. Replace the metal grate, making sure that it fits securely onto its intended two threads. This is very important, as it prevents the foam filter from being sucked into the carburetor.
5. Fit the foam filter back into the housing. Once it is nice and secure, close up the casing with the air filter assembly cover.
