The WEN ME175P miter saw protractor is an invaluable tool to measure interior and exterior corners for cutting crown molding, baseboards, trim, and other finishings, and make sure you get a perfect cut the first time and every time. This guide will walk you through how to use it. For a video demonstration, please see below (or click here if the video isn't showing up).
There are two scales on the tool: outer and inner.
Use the single-cut scale (outer scale, inner arrow) for single cuts - cuts that have one workpiece coming up against something else (for example, a piece of trim butting up against a bathtub). Swing the protractor's wings around so they lay flat against the corner. Use the inner arrow and read the outer scale, then set your miter saw to that number. Keep in mind that the outer scale's markings are every 2 degrees. For example, if you read 4 degrees, set your miter saw to 4 degrees.
Use the miter scale (inner scale, outer arrow) for double cuts - cuts that require two workpieces coming together (for example, two baseboards meeting at a corner). Swing the protractor's wings around so they lay flat against the corner. Use the outer arrow and read the inner scale, then set your miter saw to that number. For example, if you read 46 degrees on the protractor, set your miter saw to 46 degrees. Make that cut twice - once on each piece.
This should give you great cuts that come together seamlessly every time.
